Mizunara - Rejuvenate Relaxation

Mizunara - Snowy Trees

Thanks to its close proximity to Mount Yotei, one of Japan’s many active volcanoes, Hirafu and the Niseko area have been blessed with hundreds of natural hot springs.

Referred to as ‘onsen’, they’re revered by locals and visitors alike for their healing powers and wonderfully relaxing remedies.

The presence of so many onsen has been one of the driving forces behind Hirafu’s burgeoning reputation as a world-renowned centre for health and wellness, where you can explore a multitude of treatments all year-round.

However, do be prepared to leave your bathing suit behind, as according to Japanese custom, you must enter the gender-specific onsen naked.

Can’t pick which one to go to? We’ve got you covered. Here are  some of the most popular onsen in Hirafu:

Prince Hirafutei

Featuring breathtaking views of Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri, this onsen is located in one of the most popular hotels in Hirafu. It also has a sauna, as well as hot and cold open-air baths for each gender.

Niseko Grand Hotel

Making the most of its stunning natural surroundings, the Niseko Grand Hotel onsen has beautiful outdoor and indoor facilities for bathing. It offers two types of hot springs, each with different healing properties.

Located a short drive from Hirafu in Niseko’s Annupuri village, Yugokoro-tei offers indoor and outdoor bathing facilities in a classically Japanese setting with one hundred per cent natural mineral water.

Hilton Niseko Village
A 15-minute drive from Hirafu village, the onsen at Hilton Niseko Village has a spacious outdoor stone bath which is set against the beautiful backdrop of Mt Yotei and a Japanese carp-filled pond.
Alpen hotel

Located in Hotel Niseko Alpen, this onsen is equipped with an infrared light sauna, as well as a number of indoor and outdoor baths. It also has a lovely 25-meter pool, perfect for swimming lengths.

A wonderful apartment with spaces carefully thought out while creating coziness at every corner. Its amenities are as complete as you can imagine - particularly if you intend to cook. The open kitchen area is next to the living area - designed in giving a sense of connection while whipping up a meal in the background. The main bedrooms layout at the top floor are well designed with a deep sunken bath to soak off after a day of activities. If you have young children or traveling alone, I'm confident that you will love the large bunk room. There's also an equipment room where you can access directly from outside of the apartment to store your ski stuff without the need to lug them through the main door. All in all, it had been a superb time spent in the apartment. Highly recommend if you're visiting Niseko.

Amazing house - fabulously appointed. Brilliant service from Niseko Boutiques (Elite Havens). The snow was superlative and the company exceptional. A great holiday.
