Thanks to its close proximity to Mount Yotei, one of Japan’s many active volcanoes, Hirafu and the Niseko area have been blessed with hundreds of natural hot springs.
Referred to as ‘onsen’, they’re revered by locals and visitors alike for their healing powers and wonderfully relaxing remedies.
The presence of so many onsen has been one of the driving forces behind Hirafu’s burgeoning reputation as a world-renowned centre for health and wellness, where you can explore a multitude of treatments all year-round.
However, do be prepared to leave your bathing suit behind, as according to Japanese custom, you must enter the gender-specific onsen naked.
Can’t pick which one to go to? We’ve got you covered. Here are some of the most popular onsen in Hirafu:
- Prince Hirafutei
Featuring breathtaking views of Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri, this onsen is located in one of the most popular hotels in Hirafu. It also has a sauna, as well as hot and cold open-air baths for each gender.
